On October 3, 1934, a beautiful baby girl, Ozie Maie Bradley, was born to Rush Hill and Lizzie Liggins in Jacksonville, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents. At a young age, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she was lovingly raised by her Aunt Birdie and Uncle Threet.
She later met and married the love of her life, Charles Harrison, on August 11, 1954. Together, they shared 56 years of marriage and were blessed with six children. Their union was built on faith, family, and endearing love.
Ozie accepted Christ early in life and remained faithful to her Lord throughout her journey. She was a devoted member of St. Luke Church, where she served faithfully as an usher—affectionately known as a “doorkeeper in the house of the Lord”.
Ozie was a woman of many gifts and talents. She was a skilled dressmaker, gifted pastry chef, and floral designer. She worked for the Houston Independent School District for many years and also served as a dedicated housekeeper for the Turner family. She retired from Wesley Elementary School in 2001.
If you knew Mrs. Harrison, affectionately called “Mae,” you knew she was one of the most loving souls you could ever meet. Her kitchen was filled with the warmth of her famous homemade cakes—German chocolate, pineapple upside-down, and her beloved pound cake.
On June 1, 2026, her earthly journey came to a peaceful close, and she gained her eternal wings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harrison; sister Rosie Mae Powell her grandson, Trivette Harrison; her great-grandsons, Tae’Mar Hicks and Damien Harris; her godsons, Anthony Spann and Lionel Hamilton; and other beloved family members who welcomed her home.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her sister, Frances Neal of Pensacola, Florida; her brother, Robert Hill of Orange, Texas; her children—Michael (Trudy), Kelvin (Connie), Benjamin (Harriet), Kathryn, Thelma and Vanessa Harrison; special daughters Shirley Harrison of Houston, Texas, and Barbara Harrison of Riverside, California; and goddaughters D’Andrea Buggs and Alfreda Dennis.
Her legacy continues through thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren along with many others
Ozie Harrison will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her loving heart, her quiet strength, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, her love continues to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
