Patty was born in Midland, Texas to Marge and Gene Campbell having a big sister Betty Jean. She graduated from Midland-Lee High School, attended Midland College and Texas Tech before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Texas-Permian Basin (UTPB). While at Midland College she worked part-time cleaning and servicing laboratory equipment for the Dowell Division of Dow Chemical. After graduating from UTPB, she remained with Dowell for eleven years at locations throughout the Southwest. She worked her way up to Regional Laboratory Manager, published several technical papers, and earned a reputation as a ‘go to person’ for often very complex applications of well services technology.
Patty met Ted Cammarata when they both worked for Dowell. They were married in New Orleans in 1988, shortly after Patty resigned from Dowell. They had two children, Debra in 1989 and Vince in 1991. They eventually settled in Cypress, Texas in 1999 after living in various places in Louisiana, Texas, and Traverse City, Michigan. While living in Cypress, Patty accompanied Ted on overseas assignments in Cameroon and Malaysia.
Of all of her accomplishments in the oil industry, working within the Cy-Fair School District, and volunteer activism, e.g. Lakewood Glen Newsletter Editor, Cypress Assistance Ministry ESL teacher, Family Matters Sunday School leader and Red Cross Shelter Disaster Assistance, the most important and accomplished was being that of Mom, Grandma, Wife, and Friend.
Most would agree that Patty was one of those rare individuals one meets in life. She was a genuine, vivacious, and joyful person that had a positive impact on people whether by leading efforts to reduce speed in a residential neighborhood, mentoring troubled high school teenagers, planning a destination wedding, throwing a welcome home celebration for her son returning from combat in Afghanistan, ‘mucking out‘ hurricane ravaged homes, shuttling a friend to chemo-therapy treatments, bathing young boys at a Chinese Christian Orphanage in plastic fifty-five drums in Malaysia, and solving the world’s problems with groups of friends, or with her husband on the back porch after Sunday breakfast.
Patty is survived by her husband Ted Cammarata, daughter Debra Thomas and her husband Ben and grand-daughter Savannah, son Vincent Cammarata and his wife Morgan, and sister Betty Jean Lawrence.
A devout Christian that tried to live out her faith and good works, she believed God needed to be the foundation upon to build a strong family. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed by everyone she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to any of the following charities Patty was passionate about: St Jude Children’s Hospital, The USO, or Faith in Practice.
