Patricia “Patti” Cudd Fox was called to Heaven on Saturday, the 4th of April 2026, shortly after Good Friday, passing peacefully at home with each of her children by her side. She was 75 and had spent two years battling cancer with grace and determination.
Patti was born in Houston on the 17th of August 1950, the second daughter of David and Mary Cudd and younger sister to Diane. She graduated from Westbury High School in 1968 and went on to Stephen F. Austin State University, where she joined Chi Omega, made lifelong friends, and earned her degree in English.
Patti taught at West University Elementary for more than twenty years. She poured herself into bringing joy and happiness into her classroom every day. Her students knew she cared about them, not just their grades, and that made all the difference. Years later, former students would write to tell her about their college acceptances, their careers, their lives. Those letters meant the world to her. Even after retiring, she continued tutoring, unable to fully step away from work she loved so deeply.
Patti never met a stranger and rarely met a silence she couldn't fill with a well-timed joke. She had a gift for making people laugh, a particular kind of humor that caught you off guard at the dinner table or in the grocery store checkout line. If ever a moment turned tense or awkward, she was ready with a one-liner to put everyone at ease. Her joy, zest for life, and laughter will be greatly missed.
Faith shaped how Patti moved through the world, though she never made a show of it. She gave generously and quietly, whether to someone serving her at a restaurant or a friend in need. She didn't announce these things. She just did them.
Retirement gave Patti more time for what she loved most, her family. Summers meant Rosemary Beach with her grandchildren, where she was known, and adored, as NaNa. She spoiled them shamelessly, insisting each grandchild pick out a new toy every day and "charge it to NaNa." She traveled with them to New York City every summer, she threw herself into every holiday and birthday, and made sure her grandchildren knew, in ways big and small, that they were the center of her world.
Patti is preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Cudd, and her sister, Diane Schalles. She is survived by her son Brian Fox and his wife Catherine; her daughter Lindsey Bates and her husband Ross; her son Stephen Fox and his wife Georgia; and seven grandchildren: William, Andrew, Miles, Stella, Emmett, Ingrid, and Marigold.
The family extends their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at MD Anderson for the compassionate care they provided.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 21st of April at Saint Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in Bagby Parish Hall.
