

Patricia “Pat” McCall, a 5th Generation Texan and Houston native, died peacefully on Monday, the 3rd of June 2013. Born on the 17th of March 1932, Patricia was proud to be a descendant of two of Stephen F. Austin’s “Old 300” through the marriage of the Bowmans and the Rawls.
Pat attended The Kinkaid School from which she graduated in 1950. She then attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College for 1 year where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Pat dedicated her life to numerous volunteer activities. She was a Lifetime Member of the Methodist Hospital Service Corps where she spent approximately 20 years serving as chair of the Admitting Office volunteers, Yearbook Chair, Secretary, and President. During her children’s school years, she assisted with many activities at The Kinkaid School. She was also a longtime member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
Pat’s passion was politics. The Country, State, and the Republican Party were very important to her as she served on local, state, and national levels. She was elected Precinct Chair, appointed as a delegate to several State and National Republican Conventions and active in numerous local races. Until her passing, Pat was Harris County Treasurer, Orlando Sanchez’ campaign Treasurer. She helped launch Orlando’s early political career. She was a trusted advisor, volunteer and staff member.
She was a member of Magic Circle Republican Women’s Club, Houston Professional Republican Women’s Club, United Republicans of Harris County, Texas Federation of Republican Women, and Greater Houston Pachyderm Club. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Harris County Republican Party in 1995, received the President’s Plaque – Grand Order of Pachyderm Clubs in 1999, received several “Meritorious Service” plaques from the Greater Houston Pachyderm Club and also received the “Tough Tusk” award in 2000. She is also included in Meg Grier’s book, Grassroots Women, A Memoir of the Texas Republican Party.
Besides her volunteer duties, Pat deeply loved her children, grandchildren and the numerous cats and dogs that graced her doorstep throughout her years. She also loved to travel and was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel the world.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Verner H. and Mildred Powell McCall; her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Eugene W. Fike; and her brother, Verner H. McCall, Jr. She is survived by her 4 children, Roberta L. Haeckel, Joseph C. Huston, John F. and Susan M. Huston, and Margaret P. Huston; eight grandchildren, Megan K. Huston, Christopher D. and Lacey Y. Haeckel, Laura A. Haeckel, Abigail L. Haeckel, Joseph C. Huston, Jr., Sean B. Huston, Holly L. Huston, and Caitlin E. Huston. She is also survived by her cousin, William G. Dwyer; her niece, Lila McCall, and numerous other cousins.
Her family extends its love and gratitude to the staff at The Hampton Tanglewood which she has called home for the past 2 ½ years and to Tender Loving Caregivers who cared for her until the end.
In her own words, “I thank Kinkaid for the patience, understanding and basic principles given to us. These gave me the background to be able to live a productive and useful life.”
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 6th of June in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 8th of June, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Rev. Scott Endress, Pastor, and Rev. Josef Klam, Pastor, are to officiate.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Serving as casketbearers in Saturday’s service are Mike Baker, William “Chuck” Dwyer, William “Bill” Herrmann, Louis Jeffery, Jr., William “Bill” Reed, and John White. William G. Dwyer will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
