The bible says in Ecclesiastes
“ For every thing there is a season, and a time to every thing ... A time to be born, and a time to die; “
Death is an inevitable end to life; no mortal is exempted from it.
Therefore, at God's own time Patrick Ikechukwu- Chike Ekwealor was born on the 9th day of June 1953 and by God's own will and time he unexpectedly demised on the January 15th 2021 after a brief illness.
Patrick was born to late Patrick "Ogene " and late Joy Udezue Ekwealor of Nsugbe Anambra East local Government Area of Anambra state.
Earlier in his life he attended elementary at Holy Trinity Primary school in the then Onitsha province, under the management of the catholic missionaries, He attended Modebe Memorial . Secondary school, -where he obtained his West African secondary certificate.
In quest for further education attended Federal Polytechnic Oko where he obtained his ordinary National Diploma. He went further Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka studied and obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting.
Upon graduation, he started up his career as a banker with union Bank, Where worked for a period of 30 years. Within these years he served the bank in various capacities. He rose to the post bank manager a position which he held until he retired. As a banker he was very conscious of his duties, he paid attention to details and sincerity was his watch word. His intelligence combined with positive attitude earned him a lot of award and respect within the Nigerian banking sector. Within the banking sector he left an indelible mark, he hired and trained a lot of notable men and women within the banking industry today in Nigeria.
Upon retirement He immigrated to Canada with his family, from where he further immigrated to the United States choosing Houston as home to afford him ties and affinity with his kingsmen.
Patrick was happily married to the love of his life, Philomena Chinwe Ekwealor bless her soul. They got married in September 22nd 1984. Their marriage which lasted on earth for 36 solid years is still a model of what marriage should be.
They were inseparable always cleaving and living together. In complete fulfillment of the promises of God to those that fear the Lord in psalm 128 v 3 to 4 which says
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears the Lord
Patrick and Philomena were blessed with Four (4) children; a set of twins and two boys namely;
Linda Chioma Ekwealor Dibua MD, Lillian Chinelo Ekwealor- Iwotor RN, Christopher Chike- Ekwealor Engr; Chukwuebuka Ifeakorochukwu Ekwealor CRNA.
These children are well positioned all over the united states in different professions, reflecting the quality of their up bring, with the two girls happily married.
To the children and grand children Patrick was a very devoted father, always present in their lives, showering them with love and affection. The same love he has for his children was extended to son in laws. He loves and appreciates his family so much that every major holiday he insists that all the family members including his in laws gather together in his house to celebrate together.
As an Igbo man from Nsugbe in Omambala Patrick has a deep understanding and appreciation of his culture, this attachment made him choose to settle down in Houston. He is a man of the people; he integrated and socialized with members of Nigeria Community in Houston and beyond. He belongs to various social clubs in Houston Texas Namely UNIT, People's Club of Galveston, Omambala Cultural Association. Igbo bu ike and key club.
He cherished dearly the friendship and fraternity of the members of these clubs. He pioneered the establishment of Nsugbe Community in USA.
Patrick is a devout Christian and a catholic who took seriously the message of Jesus Christ and salvation. His love for God is made manifest in his relationship with others especially his family and friends. Integrity was his watch word.
Patrick is survived by his four children, siblings and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, grandparents and two brothers.
A peacemaker, a loving father and husband with a very deep sense of humor, Patrick will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Eternal rest gave unto him oh lord and let the perpetual light shine upon his soul. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
