Patti Sue Mehaffey 81, beloved wife and our devoted mother, teacher, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017.

Born July 8, 1936 in Grand Rapids, MI she moved to Texas graduating H.S. from Ursuline Academy of Dallas. Patti received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas in Radio, Television and Film. She continued her academic studies at the University of Houston receiving a Master’s degree in education. Patti was a member of Tri Delta sorority and Phi Beta Kappa.

Patti taught at Hunters Creek Elementary in Spring Branch ISD for 25 plus years. She had a unique creative ability to teach, encourage and mentor others no matter what the subject or area of need. Patti was a devout Catholic, a Sunday school teacher and youth group sponsor. Desiring to share her Faith she served as a Eucharistic minister bringing communion to nursing home patients in the community.

Patti’s greatest joy in life was her family. Her 46-year marriage to her sweetheart George blessed them with four children. Patti supported their numerous activities and the wonderful friendships; many that developed into extended “family” members throughout life. As the years passed and the family grew; she always looked forward to time spent being Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Patti was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Frank and Marie Murphy and her sister Norma Lee Bowers. She is survived by her children; Vicki and husband Waldo Martinez, George and wife Connie Mehaffey, Dennis Mehaffey and fiancé Barbara, Colleen and husband Ted McLaughlin. Brother-in-law Bill Bowers, Sister-in-law Martha and husband Terry Huntzicker, Brother-in-law Larry Mehaffey and wife Leslie. She will be dearly missed by all, especially her 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

To the Mehaffey Family, I met your mom here at Heritage Grand and found her to be a delightful enthusiastic person. I was very proud to know her. My deepest condolences to you all. She is in a better place with God who has sustained her through all of her medical issues. May she rest in peace with your dad. Fondly, Libby

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Patti's death... I talked with her after her cancer diagnosis and tried reaching out to her again after the hurricane, but was unable to contact her. The two of us shared an interest in genealogy and could talk for hours about the Murphy family history... I will miss her!! My thoughts and prayers are with her on her final journey home...

Patti will be remembered by me for her smile, sense of humor, and spirit. We had many good times at Rice basketball games and at parties for the players and supporters.
Love and blessings to all the family at this sad time.

Vicki, George, Dennis, and Colleen: You and your families are all in our thoughts and prayers. Your folks and all of you were a second family to me and had a major impact on my life. Mom and Coach's reunion in heavan leaves a great hole in our hearts here on earth. Patti was a great mentor, teacher, and supporter throughout the years. Love to all.
