Paul “Pauly” Brueckner was born on August 12, 2004 in Mountain View, California and on July 10, 2017 he earned his wings after injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. Paul was only 12 years old, one month shy of his 13th birthday. Paul is survived by his parents, Karl Brueckner & Jennifer Lakowsky-Brueckner, and sister, Alexandra. As well as great-grandparents Lakowsky, grandparents Thomas & Betsy Lakowsky, grandparents Kathleen & Paul Brueckner, and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins from both the Lakowsky & Brueckner family. Paul was an amazing boy. He was smart, witty, fun-loving, and adventurous. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, and friend. He will be missed everyday by his family.

Paul attended First Baptist Academy since January 2016 and participated in football and basketball. He also previously attended The Parish School and The American International School of Lagos. He was an honor student.

Paul was an avid reader, loved sports, and was very active in swimming, gymnastics, and baseball. Paul enjoyed playing chess, collecting coins, and playing board games with his family. Paul joined Boy Scouts of America Troop 599 last year and loved it. He loved the camping trips, shooting guns, archery, fishing, and exploring all the different Texas parks.

The wake will be held at Brookside Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 25th from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. The address is 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. The church service and celebration of life will be held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. The address is 11140 Greenbay Street, Houston, Texas 77024.

Dear, Pauly, I remember the year we went to sky ranch together with Nathan, Ali, Elizabeth, Dane, Clayton, Jonathan, and Hannah and you, me, Nathan, and Bitsy were all at Cracker Barral and you had a bunch of Twinkies and chocolate and we were sharing my chocolate bar and watching the music videos that the counlours made and then we went to paintball and it was the most fun I had had in a long time, I know I could always count of you, Nathan, and Jonathan to be on my team and give me an awesome time and some awesome bruises, I know that sky ranch was one of your favorite places.

We attended the memorial service for your sweet boy. For lack of a better word, it was spectacular. It was one of the most profound events I have ever experienced. From the very beginning, watching your big family walk down the aisle; seeing the generations of intelligent, interesting and dignified people, each member obviously suffering a tremendous loss, honored your son in the way everyone wants to be remembered but few receive. The love you all have for each other and for Paul was evident and powerful. The testimony from his teacher, your letter of Paul, Paul's song on the piano, and your daughter and his cousins having the courage and strength to sing was unbelievable. I have not stopped thinking about Paul and what a remarkable boy he was. There is a quote by a famous novelist, Edith Wharton, which was used to express her genius-"There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." I think of Paul as the candle and his memorial service as the mirror that reflected it. I would feel honored to have known him. He was an incredible little man. He is a testament to you and your husband and what wonderful parents you are.

Paul was such a precious boy and so full of life. He loved his family and he knew that his family adored him! He touched the lives of so many people, and he has left a beautiful imprint on the hearts of those who loved him so much.
Karl, Jennifer and Ali - I pray that the Lord will comfort you all with a real sense of His nearness and hope. You all are in our prayers constantly.

I first met Paul last year in 6th grade at FBA. He had an amazing sense of humor and made me laugh a lot. I'll miss the way he was able to put a smile on all of our faces. My family and I are so sorry for your loss and pray for your healing and comfort.
