Our family's thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.  I had the honored privilege of meeting Mr. Paul Downs over 20-years ago.  He helped and mentored me with sincere fatherly guidance and a warm smiles and many laughs along the way in my aviation career.  He always had Safety as his top priority, but always provided practical direction and clarity on getting things done in a very approachable and humble way.  He always had a cheerful personality that made you feel good.  Always a true professional in aviation, but mostly a very kind and sweet individual.  I, along with the entire Houston aviation sector, will dearly miss him!

I always looking forward to any aviation-related event when I knew Paul was going to be there.  I'll miss him.

I have had the joy of knowing Paul for the past few years.  He was always ready to help.  Paul's support made it easy to set up Wings meetings.  The "Paul and Lance Team" was always a crowd pleaser.  I am going to miss him.

My deepest condolences to Paul's family and the Houston FSDO. What a tremendous loss to the aviation community. As the liaison to the Houston Professional Aviation Maintenance Association Paul was instrumental in presenting IA Renewals, Seminars and FAASTeam programs. Paul cared! His help in setting up these safety programs, recurrent training was invaluable.

Sending my deepest condolences to Paul's family and the Houston FSDO office.  I met Paul five years ago to have him present one of his most excellent presentations of the FAA regulations to my students at The Aviation Institute of Maintenance.   He would interact with them for four hours and make it as interesting as anyone can on regulations.  I am very sad of his passing. He will be greatly missed.

I am sadden at the loss of a good friend and FAA co-worker. Working with Paul in the safety program was a pleasure; his attitude and willingness to do right and get the job done was #1. He was an asset to the FAA and flying public. I will be praying for Paul's soul and his family. May God be in all's hearts and minds

The sudden loss of Paul proves that life is so fragile and we may not understand why things happen the way they do. Today my heart is filled with sadness, but my memories are filled with smiles and laughter of the good times we shared over the years.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Paul's passing. I was honored to have worked with him for a short time, and he will be sorely missed.

Condolences to the Paul Downs family, the FAA Houston FSDO and our greater Houston area aviation family too, we have all suffered a huge loss with Paul's passing.  I worked with Paul for over 20 years on numerous aviation safety and FAASTeam programs.  I cannot think of anyone more dedicated to aviation safety (both Pilots and Mechanics) than Paul. We are all safer and wiser by having had the privilege of working and training with Paul.  When Paul said he was from the FAA and was here to help, he really meant it and he always was!  His Batcave may now be empty, but our thoughts of him will last our lifetimes.  Paul will be missed, here's wishing him fair winds and following seas and his family blue skies and tailwinds always. Condolences to Paul's family and the Houston FSDO from the Lone Star Flight Museum.  I met Paul well over 20 years ago and always enjoyed our interactions. Aviation has lost a great supporter. I worked with Paul for many years on aviation safety and FAASTeam meetings. He was always there for all of us. Paul never worked a day in his adult life, because his job was his passion. God designed him with the "Energizer Bunny" in mind.  You did life well Paul, and you will be rewarded in heaven. We will all miss him and aviation now has a gapping hole where Paul used to be.

Though I knew Paul for a short while, He left a lasting impression. His down to earth demeanor and warm heart projected out to all he encountered.  It was a distinct pleasure to work with Paul  and my prayers go out to his family and friends.

Paul was a great man and very well liked. Paul was the type of person that would give his shirt off his back if you needed it. Whenever I need help I just had to ask and Paul was there. Paul you will be missed my friend.

Paul supported us in aviation operations for over 20 years. He was always willing to do whatever it takes.  He will be missed by all.

Paul was a wonderful person to work with.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and coworkers.

Paul was a great man that will be dearly missed. He was one of my first interactions when I began working with the Houston FSDO. He was a mentor for me throughout my career and a great void will be left behind.

Paul was a gentleman.  He was well versed in his field and passionate about sharing that information.  I can not think of a time when he ever said no to any request.  We negotiated a couple of times, but he always had a fix.  It will be hard to think of anyone more dedicated to the FAASteam than was Paul.  We are better people and pilots for having known Paul.

Paul was a dear friend and co-worker.  We here in the Houston FSDO are still in shock over this great loss. Life is very short and unpredictable. We are not promised tomorrow, we bring nothing into this world and we take nothing out.  We come and go the same way.  The time Paul spent in this world he made his surroundings better. He was a shining light for all to see.  He made friends everywhere he went.  Paul can never be replaced, God broke the mold when He made Paul.  I thing God I got to know Paul and be his friend.  We pray for his family and especially his beloved wife Patty.

Paul Downs was not the ordinary FAA  government employee.  He was special and cared about helping those in the industry.  He was admired and liked by all and his passing is a loss to aviation which he served.  There are very few individuals like Paul that will have a lasting memory. Paul was a fine representative of the FAA. He will be missed by all of us in general aviation.Rest in peace.

Paul was a special person.  He made innumerable contributions to the Flight Standards Mission of insuring Aviation Safety, as the airworthiness member of the Houston FSDO's FAAST team.  He was a person of strong character, honesty, and integrity. Paul was a respected aviation professional and impacted many lives throughout the HOU District, as well as with his colleagues in the FAAST Team, nationwide.  He had a level of energy and a commitment to his job rarely seen. He is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Patty and their family. We are trying to do everything we can to support her and her family as they cope with this terrible loss.
