He was born in Dallas, Texas to William P. and Hilda Swearingen. Paul was raised in Houston, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin for both undergraduate studies and law school.
Apart from his career as an attorney, he was an avid sportsman, musician, chef, a do-it-yourselfer, aircraft, private aviation, and airshow enthusiast. He traveled the world embarking on journeys to Canada, Yellowstone, Alaska, Australia, Hawaii, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Belize. More memorable times for Paul came at the lakehouse with family and friends, sharing the water, the sunsets, the barbecues, boating, sailing, fishing and motorcycle riding, all so very much a part of who Paul was and will always be. He continued to practice law, never really retiring. He traveled from courtroom to courtroom across the Central Texas area during the last 12 of his nearly 50 year professional career, thoroughly enjoying what he was doing, never really retiring, and never giving up.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Hilda Swearingen, brother William R. Swearingen, and grandson Oliver Coburn.
He is survived by his son, Peter Swearingen of Houston; daughters Sarah Przybyla (Alan) of The Woodlands, TX and Elizabeth Coburn (Bradley) of Nashville, TN; stepson, Adam Connor of Houston; brother, John Swearingen of Port Angeles, WA; grandsons William and Reid Przybyla, and Clark and James Coburn; granddaughters Caroline and Marion Coburn, and Vivienne Przybyla; nephews Van and Gerret Swearingen.
