Pauline Z. Hand, age 88, passed away at her home on October 25, 2026. She was born on May 10, 1938, in Baytown, Texas, to the late Bohus Roman Zatopek and Pauline V. Zatopek.
On May 23, 1960, Pauline married the love of her life, Leroy Morris Hand, in Corpus Christi, Texas. In their early years of marriage, they lived in Corpus Christi and Dallas, Texas. Together, they later built a loving home living around the world in The Hague, Holland; Wimbledon, London, England; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bridgewater, New Jersey; and Sugar Land, Texas, and raised their two children, sharing nearly 28 devoted years of marriage until Leroy's passing on February 4, 1988.
Pauline was an avid lifelong golfer who enjoyed the game with her husband and kids, and she also loved playing bridge. She took great joy in teaching her grandkids to fish and loving them as they grew up. She also spent time with a kindred spirit, Daniel Johnson, who shared her love for fishing as well as her other pastime, poker.
Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Morris Hand; her parents, Bohus Roman Zatopek and Pauline V. Zatopek; her sisters, Billie Beare (and husband Jimmy Fred Beare) and infant sister Eileen Ray Zatopek; her brother, Bobby R. Zatopek; her parents-in-law, Melvin F. Hand and Leah Morris Hand; and her grandparents, including Anna Zatopek, and Otto J and Frances Fritsch.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her son, Keith Hand, and his wife, Angelita Hand; her daughter, Jocelyn Vaskas, and her husband, Adam Vaskas; her cherished grandchildren, Kailey Hand, Gavin Hand, Arielle Vaskas, and Keira Vaskas; and extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on November 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
