

Pauline Shafer Sampson, age 97, passed away on Thursday, the 7th of January 2010, at Seven Acres Nursing Home.She was a native Houstonian, born at home on the 6th of January 1913, to Esther Goldman Shafer and Morris Shafer. She grew up in Houston and married her true love, Jake Sampson, in 1933, and was married for nearly 50 years.Mrs. Sampson was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Morris Shafer, her loving husband, Jake Sampson, her sisters Beatrice Wilkenfeld and husband Morris, Jeanette Sheinberg and brothers Phillip Shafer and wife Sarah and Jerome Shafer. Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law, Larry Rosmarin and brother-in-law, Edel Schickman.She is survived by her children Harriet Rosmarin Gertner and husband Gilbert, Lloyd Sampson and wife Gloria of Columbus, Georgia, and Gil Sampson and wife Judy, sister Freida Schickman, grandchildren Lance Rosmarin and wife Valerie, Marci Morgan and husband Ronnie of Rancho Santa Fe, California, Clayton Williams, Cindy Shipper and husband Ronnie, Caren Gertner Fritts and husband Gene, and Eddie Gertner; great grandchildren Ryan Morgan, Blake Morgan and Laura Morgan, and Melissa Fritts; special nephew, Dr. Jerry Wilkenfeld and wife Sylvia and numerous other nieces and nephews.Pauline was a sparkling lady with many talents. She volunteered at Texas Children’s Hospital for 24 years where she served as president of the Auxiliary for several years. She also served as president of her Delphian society and was active in many other charities. Her beautiful smile and cheery nature will be greatly missed. She loved her family and always had something nice to say about everyone. She was greatly admired for her integrity and was a role model to many. Her quick wit and sense of humor will be missed.The family wishes to thank Sylvia Duffau and Grace Grant for their loving care.Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock this evening, Saturday, the 9th of January, in the Drawing Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.A funeral service is to be conducted at half-past three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 10th of January, in the Gordon Chapel of Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 South Braeswood Boulevard in Houston, where Rabbi David Lyon will officiate.The graveside service and interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Adath Israel Cemetery in Houston.In lieu of usual remembrances, please consider a donation in Mrs. Sampson’s name to Texas Children’s Hospital, P.O.
