Pauline Garcia Winland

Pauline Winland passed away with her family surrounding her on February 29th, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Garcia SR and Maria Inez Salas Garcia, brother Nicholas Garcia JR, and son Michael Winland. Pauline is survived by her daughters Becky Espinoza and Jennifer Winland, son Harley Ray Winland, sisters Lydia Gomez, Isabel Escamilla, Dora Leal, Grace Vasquez, brothers Ralph Garcia and Adam Garcia, and many nieces and nephews and members of the Winland and Garcia Families.

Pauline was born on June 28, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up there with her four sister and three brothers. She moved to Houston, Texas and had her four beautiful children Becky, Jenny, Ray and Michael. Pauline worked as a sales associate for Foleys for a few short years then Sage/K-mart for 20 years. She was able to see Sage become K-mart and work during that “blue light special.” Pauline was a hard worker so that she could provide for her family. Pauline was an active member at the Assumption Church in Houston for over 44 years. She loved to give back by constantly donating blood at the church.

Pauline lived for watching movies, shopping, playing cards, and dancing while doing all of these. She never cared what movie you wanted to see, she loved them all. On weekends, shopping was a part of her happiness and she always shared it with her girls. There was nothing Pauline loved more than her sisters coming over for a game of cards. The kids always knew when the sisters were coming, because she would start playing her 50’s music and begin cleaning the house while dancing. Many members of the family remember these nights filled with laughter, music, and dancing. After all, it was a celebration of family and Pauline loved her family.

The family would like to thank the Promise Hospital of Houston and Hospice Care in Houston for taking such great care of their beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend Pauline Winland during her time of need.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 1pm to 4pm with the rosary to be recited at 1pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10am. Interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
