Pete Shephard

Peter Shephard, 69. Of 1939 1st St Texas City, Texas, 77590 passed away on August 27th, 2026. Pete was born in Lynbrook, New York on July 21,1957 to parents George and Bertha Shephard. Pete graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1974. After graduation, Pete worked for his dad at Shephard fuel & Service Inc. Pete attended Lone Star College - North Harris in 1981 pursuing his dream of becoming a police officer. Pete also attended Lone Star College and obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in business. Pete met Deborah (Debbie) in July, of 1989 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital where Debbie was employed and Pete’s toddler son was a patient. They married on March 25th, 1990. Pete had a career in Law Enforcement at The Houston Police Department for 18+ years where he was a Senior Officer becoming a FTO (Field Training Officer). He was a member of the Policeman’s Patrolman’s Union. Pete medically retired from the department in September of 1999. Pete had a passion for helping people whether it was through The Houston. Police Department or his volunteering for the Tally Ho fire department in New York or the River Plantation volunteer fire department in Conroe, Texas.

Pete loved being a police officer, and helping people. He was friendly to everyone he met. Pete called everyone “brother, buddy, sweetheart, doll” as if they were family. After his retirement from the City, he worked at the City of Houston, aviation Bureau, Ground Transportation Officer. All the while growing a passion for saving / rescuing Bunnies. Pete was compassionate about his bunnies. He gave his love to so many over the years right up until his passing. Service is casual to Sunday best. Anyone who knew him, knew he loved his T-shirt’s and shorts no matter the time of year. You may honor Pete by wear blue. You are welcome share your memories at the service.

The family would like to Thank: Robert Ludwig for the tremendous support and care for both Pete and I. Pete’s brothers and sister for checking on us from afar. Bobby for uplifting our spirits Eythan Shephard for helping out by navigating transportation, caring for Pete in my absence. Emily Carter checking in and knowing the right thing to say. Dr. Kocurek and Nurse Daniel for all the years of care at the wound care center, Mainland Hospital. The Houston Police Department for allowing Pete to fulfill his dream.

Pete is survived by his wife of 36 years Debbie; his son, Eythan Shephard; daughter, Emily Carter husband Coty; brothers, Bobby Shephard, Kevin Shephard; and sister, Karen Waring husband Tom; brother-in-law, Robert Ludwig; sister-in-law, Irene Shephard numerous nieces and nephews extended family and friends. Pete’s beloved Dogs, Marley and Prince; Bunny, Bugs; Cats, Thomas, Hope Faith, Charity and Mothership.

Pete is preceded in death by son, Justin Anthony Shephard; parents, George and Bertha Shephard; brother, Gary Shephard; sister-in-law, Dale Shephard; and many beloved pets.
