

He attended Burris Elementary and Junior High, where he participated as a junior fire chief and a boy scout. He later graduated from Booker T Washington High School in 1955. His interest in track and field earned him a letterman’s jacket with wings on it, which still hangs in his closet. Education took him to TSU, where he studied architectural drafting and he attended mortuary school. He continued his education in various fields and performed many different types of jobs-drafting, short order cook, ambulance driver, mortuary assistant, real estate, foreman and chemist at the local textile factory.
He professed his belief in Jesus at an early age. He was a dedicated working member of Greater Mount Olive MBC, where he served as a trustee and chairman of the deacon board. Phill was a junior patron of the Prince Of Peace Branch of The Eastern Star.
During those early and formative years, her met and fell in love with Annie V. Gatlin of Logansport, LA. They married December 1, 1956, and she became a dedicated working member at his church. They later moved their membership to Bella Vista MBC. Phill and Annie were proud owners of P J Henton Janitorial and Lawn Service. To this marriage two children were born, Jacqueline and Phill Jr.
Through the years, Phill had many hobbies that he loved and shared with Annie, his children, grands and great grands. These were judo, tennis, fishing, and bingo. Fishing was his favorite. Phill was a member of the Citizens On Patrol and has played a key role in fighting drugs and crime in his neighborhood.
Left to cherish memories are Jacqueline (Edwin) her three children - Richard (Rosiland), Naaman (Dominique), and LaToya. They have blessed Phill and Annie with many great grandchildren. And then there is his beloved sister Joyce Broussard, who even unto death is still watching over her “little brother”. Phill was many things to many people, and the beat goes on. This includes many nieces and nephews and his last living sister in law, Ruth Gatlin.
Those who preceded him in death are his beloved wife Annie, his son Phill Jr and his wife Terri, his parents, and all other brothers and sisters. To God be the glory.
