Passed away October 10, 2010 to be at home with her precious Lord. She will be forever remembered by her loving husband and best friend, Jerry Fritsch and her son Nick Hawkins (Sarah). Phyllis is survived by her brother Raymond de Gravelle (Claudia) and sister, Adele Meyer (Louis) in addition to family and friends who were blessed to know her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne de Gravelle, her mother and father, James and Sophie de Gravelle.
Phyllis was born February 28, 1956 in Jeanerette, Louisiana, earned a BA and MA in Elementary Education from University of Louisiana (with honors) and taught first, second, third and sixth grade in Lafayette Parish and St. Martin Parish Schools. Phyllis was also Assistant Public Librarian for Opelousas Public Library.
Phyllis was a woman of God who touched the lives of countless people through teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school, prison ministry, substitute teaching, and as a master gardener. She served with her loving heart and will be dearly missed. There is comfort in knowing her example will live on through the lives of those she touched.
Phyllis was laid to rest in a private family ceremony. A public memorial service will be announced at a later time.
