Came home to Houston, Texas to marry Janie Melendez, had two sons, one of which passed on at the tender age of six months. He began working in construction as a laborer, but excelled in all phases, especially carpentry (he was one of the first Hispanic members of the Carpenter’s Local Union - 213(now 551). Preston was well known in the industry as an outstanding “door specialist” so much so that he founded his own company “Hang’em & Lock’em Co.” He so loved working that he once told his son, “At first I worked because of need to support the family but after retiring at age 62, I continued to work because I loved to work!”
