Prisciliano was truly an inspiration and a blessing in our lives. He suffered from schizophrenia since the age of 17 and had to overcome other challenges through the years, which led to physical challenges.
Although he had to overcome his internal battles, he was always aware of everything around him and always looked out for the family. He was so caring and sweet and made sure our needs were met. He especially, always wanted to make sure our mom was taken care of and he said, “We have to make sure she stays active and healthy and doesn’t turn into a little old lady.”
He was a great mathematician. He was excellent at statistics. He would read the newspaper everyday and memorize sports statistics and then analyze patterns and make his predictions by computing results. He was always on point about which teams would end up in championships. He was brilliant.
As a teenager, before the onset of his mental illness, he was a straight A student and played many sports that he excelled at, such as football, and basketball. He took great pride in saying how his older brother, Ramon, taught him and how he was following suit. He once won first prize at a Rockets’ game halftime show for basketball throwing. He loved playing baseball with our dad at the neighborhood park and hitting home runs. He was our mom’s baseball angel.
He was also a very talented artist. As a child, his drawing of a rocket ship was displayed at the downtown Houston Public library for first place in an art drawing contest.
Two years ago, he suffered from a partial foot amputation. Despite this, he still took great care of the home and our pets and made sure everyone remained active, including himself. He also saved the family from a possible home intruder (second time in his adulthood he did that). He made it clear that he was the man of the house.
He was highly spiritual and loved our little pets beyond words, and even though he fought his own inner battles, he always wanted to make sure they were taken care of and gave them all the love he had to give. He took great care of them. He would tell us when one would pass away, “Don’t worry. He’s in heaven playing in Mama Maria’s (our grandma’s) garden right now.”
He was such a sweet, courageous, kind, loving person with the biggest heart. He was a leader, and an inspiration to all and will be greatly missed and forever loved.
He is preceded in death by his loving father, Ramon F. Hernandez Sr.
