Ray Michell Samour Jr., 68, was born January 5, 1958, in Houston, Texas, and passed away May 27, 2026. He resided in Point Blank, Texas. Ray will be remembered as a beloved and cherished man whose steady devotion to family, faithful spirit, and gentle compassion shaped the lives of those who knew him. Honest, hard-working, and resilient, he met life with quiet strength, a generous heart, and a kind way of treating others as he would wish to be treated.
Ray graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1977. Athletic and energetic, he loved sports and competed as a member of the tennis team and as a competitive swimmer. In 1979, he joined the Airforce and served with honor until his honorable discharge in 1983—years that reflected his sense of duty and steadfast character.
Ray built a long and respected career in the chemical industry, working for 33 years and retiring from DOW in 2018. In retirement, he focused his time on raising his daughter and embracing the lake life he loved—days filled with fishing, boating, and jet skiing, and moments of peace in nature and solitude at his lake home. Whether it was a swimming pool, beach, river, or lake, Ray was happiest near the water, and the lake remained his special place.
In 2001, Ray married Tammy, and together they made their home in Seabrook for most of their years. In 2008, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Leah. Ray’s greatest passion was being a devoted husband and father, and his love for Tammy and Leah was constant, protective, and deeply felt.
Ray’s humor was a gift he shared freely. He loved to make people laugh, and his playful spirit often showed through in pranks and a great sense of fun. He also loved Elvis and could do a mean Elvis impersonation—one more way he brought lightness and joy to the people around him. He enjoyed watching and playing sports, and he carried himself as a peaceful man who avoided conflict, looked for solutions when problems arose, and chose steady kindness over division. A God-fearing man, Ray lived with a faithful heart and a sincere respect for others.
Ray is survived by his loving Wife, Tammy; Daughter, Leah; Siblings, Renee King (David) and Craig Samour; Mother in law, Sharon Genz; Father in law, Freddie Patterson (Rita); and Brother in laws, Wayne Patterson (Karla) and Jason Patterson (Misha). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Samour and Helen Sumrall.
Among the names that captured Ray’s spirit and the affection others had for him were “Mitchy Boy,” as his family called him; “Wildhair,” his “Indian” name for the way his hair could stick out wildly like a porcupine if he did not style it; and “Wrong Way Ray,” a nickname coworkers coined after evacuating from Hurricane Rita—traveling for two days in the direction the storm turned, and ultimately riding out the hurricane in Louisiana.
