

Ray retired from Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc. on April 1, 1991 as Regional Manager, Southwest after 32 years. Ryerson was the largest metal distributor in the world and Ray had the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world and all over the United States. He also was the President and founder of Cash Enterprises, L.L.C.
Ray is predeceased by his wife Rose Catherine Cash (nee April), son Raymond T. Cash, parents George B. Sr. and Jennie W. Cash, and brothers George B. Cash Jr. of Falling Waters, West Virginia and Horace A.S. Cash of Trainer, Pennsylvania.
Ray is survived by three children, Charles R. Cash and his wife Debra, Theresa C. Rudolf and her husband John, and Thomas E. Cash and his wife Francesca; six grandchildren, Christopher A. Cash, Heather M. Baker, Catherine Rose Langford, Taylor W. Cash, Maxwell A. Cash and Spencer L. Cash; and eight great grandchildren, Jonathan N. Cash, Candace Rose Cash, Joshua D. Kiser, Cheyene Baker, Parker E. Cash, Tyler C. Cash, Wyatt J. Baker and Kaitlyn Rose Cash.
Ray was a graduate of Darby High School in Darby, Pennsylvania in 1949. While attending school he lettered in several sports and was on the football, basketball, baseball and track teams. He was also a member of the band and orchestra and earned letters for participation. After high school and prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy, he played baseball for the Darby Red Sox.
Ray received a B.S. in Business Administration and was in the M.B.A. Program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While at Drexel he played football. He was a member of Sigma Rho, an honorary business fraternity and the Golden Dragon Society. Ray then attended Temple University where he took post graduate work on a Delaware Valley Credit management Association Scholarship.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served our country in the Korean War. After Boot Camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois, he served at the U.S. Naval Air Station and the U.S. Naval Air Test Center at Patuxent River, Maryland. From there he was transferred to Newport, Rhode Island where he served aboard the U.S.S. Arcadia (AD 19) and the U.S.S. Gatling (DD 671) until February, 1955.
Ray’s past positions and affiliation include: Vice President of James E. Brookes Agency, Treasurer of Credit Mgmt. Forums, Inc., Director of Ryerson Federal Credit Union, and Teacher at Houston Community College. He also was a past member of the National Association of Credit Mgmt. in Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth.
Ray was a past member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club in Houston and served as President of Lockwood-Clinton Rotary Club in Houston and Trustee of Rotary Club Activities, Inc. During his years in Rotary he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award granted by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
Ray served in many organizations in the Spring Branch area including several P.T.A.’s, MacGregor West Civic Association, Spring Branch/Memorial Sports Association and the Chamber of Commerce Flood Control Committee. He was one of the founders of the MacGregor West Civic Association.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Prior to moving to Houston in February, 1967, he resided in Prospect Park, Lansdowne Park and Darby, Pennsylvania.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 3:00pm in the Chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
