Raymond Mikeska Jr., age 87, passed away on April 7, 2019 in Houston, Texas.
Raymond was born on August 12, 1931 in Houston, Texas. He served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard from October 1, 1951 through April 14, 1955 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Spokane and Moses Lake, Washington. Mr. Mikeska graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1960.
Raymond was a life-long banker and worked for the Texas National Bank, the Texas Commerce Bank, Capital Bank , and M Bank, among others.
Raymond was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with friends and family. He played fast-pitch softball for many years. He was a devoted and loving father, taught Sunday School and was a Boy Scout leader. He loved taking family vacations to beautiful places all over the United States and Canada. The most memorable was a 4-week road trip from Houston to Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska in 1965.
Raymond was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Raymond Mikeska Sr. and Clara Styers Mikeska, and brother-in-law Sam Houston IV. Surviving family members are his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Mikeska, sons Richard (Rick) and Paul (wife Elizabeth “Liz”), grandchildren Jason, Angela, and Amie (Loren), great-grandchildren David, Brandan, Sakura, Madison, and Andrew, sister Virginia Rose Houston, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Raymond Mikeska Jr will be held on April 15, 2019, from 5 to 8 pm at Pat H. Foley & Co., located at W 34th St. Houston, Texas, 77018. His service will be on April 16, 2019, at 10 am, at Pat H. Foley & Co. He will be laid to rest following the service at Hempstead Cemetery, located on Old Cemetery Rd. in Hempstead, Texas.
