

Raymond “Ray” Stauffacher, Jr., of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 19, 1936, in Houston to Raymond Stauffacher, Sr. and Bernice (Brogdon) Stauffacher.
Ray was raised in the Spring Branch area, where he attended local schools and developed a strong foundation that would guide him throughout his life. He was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of Spring Branch High School. He went on to attend the University of Texas, where he was a three-year letterman in baseball while earning his degree in mechanical engineering. His talent on the field led him to play briefly for the Detroit Tigers organization.
Following his time in professional baseball, Ray began his career as a mechanical engineer. Among the notable projects he contributed to were Jones Hall and the Astrodome. He later pursued a career in law after attending South Texas College of Law. Ray dedicated an impressive 60 years to the legal profession, building a career marked by commitment, integrity, and service.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Joe Stauffacher.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lynn Lewis; his sons, Ray Stauffacher III (Diane), Stuart Stauffacher (Kelley), and Eric Stauffacher (Shannon); his brothers, Richard (Doris) and Ryan Frederick “Ricky” (Janie); and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Stauffacher, Dillon Kelly (Rachel), and Ian Kelly, Kelsie Stauffacher, Kori Stauffacher Kurio (Andrew), Hayden Stauffacher (Audrey), Hunter Stauffacher (Celeste), DJ Howard (Cierra), and Connor Stauffacher. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
Outside of his professional life, Ray had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the arts. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid hunter and a gifted, self-taught musician who played the piano, guitar, organ, and banjo.
Above all, Ray loved his family. His legacy lives on through them and the many lives he touched over the years.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8th at 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
