OBITUARY

Refugio Ayala Sr.

June 22, 1954July 26, 2020

Refugio Ayala Sr. also known to his family as (Cuco) or (Rufus), age 66 unexpectedly passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020. Refugio was born in Houston Texas on June 22nd, 1954 to Bertha P. Ayala and Raul M. Ayala. At the young age of 17, Refugio enlisted in the military to become a proud member of the United States Marine Corps in the year 1971. He was in the third battalion platoon #3083. Refugio would go on to serve 4 years in which he traveled to various parts of the world serving his country in the midst of the Vietnam war. Following his honorable discharge from service, Refugio proceeded to get married to his now ex- wife Adella Ayala in January of 1975. Together, they gave birth to three handsome boys, Refugio Jr., Steven, and Michael. Refugio was mechanically inclined and started his professional career as a tile setter. Later, he went on to acquire more trades in order to become a proficient plumber and construction worker. Throughout his years of labor, Refugio had the privilege of working alongside his sons and other family members. During his time of leisure Refugio enjoyed going fishing, visiting the horse track, and watching western films and sports. Of course, like every gentleman, Refugio liked to have a good time and indulged in having a smoke and a couple of beers from time to time. In his later years, Refugio enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, great grandkids, and family. As a sports fan and photographer, he became a regular attendee at his grandkids sporting events. Refugio was known for his sarcastic humor, being very outspoken and blunt. He never hesitated to say what was on his mind and referred to by many as a “jokester.” As a grandfather, brother, son and uncle, he was devoted to his family and loved them very much. Refugio was proud to be a Marine and even more proud to be an Ayala. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

My dad with his nephew Cuco.
I will always remember when Cuco would use his stern voice and scare the crap out of my nephew Josh and my son Jordan just to get a good laugh! Then turn around and give them some cash because he felt bad. Thanks for all the times that you would go sit and watch tv with my dad so he wouldn’t be alone. And thanks for always taking Aunt Bertha to Jordan’s birthday dinners so she wouldn’t miss it. I have so many good memories. We love you cousin.

My sincerest condolences to Cuco's family and friends. Last time I remember seeing him was at my mom's home on Denmark. He was doing some plumbing work for her. Still as friendly as ever. May you rest in peace, Cuco.

Gonna miss you Dad. I have so many memories. These last 5 years have been great. You living at my shop. Seeing you every morning .Drinking coffee . Eating lunch. Talking and bullshitting. Gonna miss drinking a beer with you. You hanging out at my house with my kids and grand kids. All the help and insight you gave me with the business. You wasn’t the perfect dad. But you were my dad. One day we will see each other again. And toss a few back. So long Marine. Semper Fi!!
