Regena Drew Holman Smith was born to Andrew and Genevieve Holman on December 29, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s she passed away peacefully, in her home in Porter on June 25th.
Regena is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son, Jeffrey; and daughter, Chery Jo.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Bobbie Jones and husband David, Karen Jones, and Phillis Hamilton and husband Edward Hamilton; 8 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Regena also had many nieces, nephews, and friends that she loved very much.
She married Ralph Smith on August 14, 1955. They had 5 children and lived in the Vivian, Louisiana area until 1967. They moved their family to the Houston area in 1967.
Regena was Nana to everybody and everybody was always welcome at her house for a good meal. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She shopped and wrapped gifts for weeks. She didn’t just buy one gift for each person in her extended family, she bought several. She was Santa Claus in our family. Ralph and Regena were very supportive to all their family’s activities. They never missed sporting events, school programs, dance recitals and livestock shows. Regena had several jobs over the years, always being promoted quickly. She and Ralph retired early due to injuries on the job. They had some fun filled years traveling and visiting friends and family all over the United States.
She was a member of The Grand Parkway Assembly of God. She participated in many things at her church as long as she was able. She helped with Missionettes and volunteered for all of the children’s activities. She always made her famous banana pudding for church gatherings. She served as President and Chaplain for The American Legion Post 615 Ladies Auxiliary in New Caney for several years.
Regena loved her family and friends and was always helping people. She would send cards to people for all occasions. When her old friend Betty Jones was fighting cancer, she sent her a card every day for over a year. Ralph and Regena led their family by example. Their kindness, generosity, and love for the Lord was shown daily not only to family and friends, but to strangers as well.
The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice for their loving care.
