Regina Geanakis Brinegar, a native-born Houstonian, entered her heavenly home on July 24, 2016, at the age of 92. She is survived by her daughters Helen (Doug) Gilbert and Cynthia Crain; two grandsons, Chris (Sherra) Gilbert and Jeff (Debby) Crain; four great-grandchildren, Carolyn and Brandon Gilbert and Avonlea and Linley Crain, and by one sister, Virginia Dardar. Her husband, Rev. Bill Brinegar preceeds her in death, as well as her sisters, Dete Howell, Helen Porterfield, and baby sister, Mary Helen Geanakis.Well-known as a woman of great hospitality, kindness, and generosity, her mark has been left as one to imitate. Her last song on earth to sing solo, “There’s Something About That Name” [Jesus] rang loud and clear without a missed word to send out the proclamation of her soul/and herald the coming change of her address. She spoke often during her last two days on earth of needing to get in her chair while pointing upward. What we at first thought may be anesthesia-induced hallucinations, we believe now to be a clear vision of her chair at the Lord’s banquet table in heaven, where she is now very happily seated.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Brookside Cypress Creek Funeral Home, 9149 Highway 6 North. A graveside service will follow at Earthman Resthaven, Cemetery, 13102 I-45 North, at 2:30 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Houston’s First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX, on Tuesday, August 9, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Pastoral Care at Houston’s First Baptist Church at the same address.
The family wants to express a special thank you to the employees of Brookdale Assisted Living at Cy-Fair and the hospital staff at Cy-Fair Medical Center Hospital for their loving care given to our mother in her last years.
