Born August 20, 1937 in Municipio de Matamoros, Tamaulipas to Guadalupe Quintanilla Garcia† and Isabel del Fierro Zuñiga de Quintanilla†, Régulo was the oldest out of 8 siblings. At 14 years old, he lost his own father and took on the father figure role to his 7 younger siblings. He lived a very difficult childhood but pushed forward and persevered in his adult life.
Régulo would eventually meet his future wife María Concepción Villarreal Treviño† in the nearby town of Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas where they lived. They had 6 children, José Efraín, Mario Alberto, Maricela, Guadalupe†, Carlos Gilberto, and Liliana Elizabeth. One day he purchased a lottery ticket and won 70,000 pesos and started his own tiendita. Many would argue that he had already won the lottery when he married his wife.
Eventually, Régulo would travel to Houston to seek a better life for his family. During his stay in Houston, he worked in the construction industry as a framer but he had bigger plans for life. After moving his family to Houston, with the help of his wife, he started his own construction company and was able to provide employment to many. As the years passed, he would pass on his knowledge, skills, and work ethic to his 3 sons.
Régulo enjoyed traveling regularly to México with his wife and children where they both still had family. When he was not traveling, he enjoyed going to dinner with his family and friends where mariachi groups were known to be so he could perform some of his favorite songs such as Tú Solo Tú, Yo, and Ella. Régulo had a passion for singing and playing the accordion and as he performed his family would cheer him on with pride.
Régulo is survived by his 5 children José Efraín Quintanilla, Mario Alberto Quintanilla, Maricela Leal, Carlos Gilberto Quintanilla, and Liliana Elizabeth Garcia, 9 grandchildren, Susana Elizabeth Leal, Mario Alberto Quintanilla, Jr., Víctor Alfonso Leal, Vanessa Juanita Roberson, Midea Concepción Quintanilla, Julio César Quintanilla, Efrén Emiliano Quintanilla, Issac Imanol Quintanilla, and Lianna Noelle Garcia, 3 great-grandchildren, Zev Fidel Thomas, Soraéya Maricela Thomas, and Isabella Renne Roberson, along with his 2 sisters, Rosa Elia Rios and María Lidia López.
Régulo is preceded in death by his daughter Guadalupe Quintanilla, who passed away as an infant, and his wife María Concepción Villarreal Treviño de Quintanilla who passed away 27 years ago, his parents Guadalupe Quintanilla Garcia and Isabel del Fierro Zuñiga de Quintanilla, and his siblings Belisario Quintanilla, Everardo Quintanilla, Guadalupe Quintanilla, Benedicto Quintanilla, and Orfelinda De La Rosa.
