

Remedios “Remy” Camba Macalos, 77, of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family following a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. She was born in Galas, Quezon City, Philippines to Aniceto “Papang” Camba and Josefa “Mamang” Estrada. Remy studied at Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce as an Accounting major. She married Mauro J. Macalos in 1970, and they immigrated to the United States in 1971. They lived in New York City, New York until they moved to Houston, Texas in 1977.
Remy worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for several companies, including R.O.U. Benefit Plans, William H. Shoemaker & Co., ETPM-USA, Inc., Digicon Geophysical Corporation, TLH International, Houston Flea Market, Inc., and Fiducial, Inc. Remy and Mauro were members of several Filipino organizations in the Houston community. Remy also served on the Board of Directors for San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Community Center in Sugar Land, Texas for a number of years. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Houston where she was also a member of the choir.
Remy enjoyed hosting parties, traveling with friends, and making pilgrimages. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, and especially ballroom dancing with her husband.
Remy is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Clarita Quinajon and Milagros Tumaliuan.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Mauro, daughters Maureen Powers (husband Sean) and Marilyn Mueller (husband Randy), son Raymond “R.J.” Macalos (wife Anna), as well as siblings Corazon Ambas, Vicky Collins, Boying Camba, Ernie Camba, Nading Camba, and Lody Albano, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is beloved “Lola” (grandmother) to James and Michael Powers, Kateri, Lilly and Robert Mueller, and Christopher “C.J.” and Joelle “Jojo” Macalos.
Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston, Texas on Monday, November 6, 2023, 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Vigil Service and Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:30 AM followed by Rite of Committal at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
