Reynaldo Vega was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on March 15, 2025, after a brave and relentless three-year battle with renal failure. Although his fight was difficult, Rey's unwavering positivity and strength inspired everyone around him.
Rey, or "Chino" as his family affectionately called him, was born on September 20, 1977, in Houston, Texas to Norma and Reynaldo Vega. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1996, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Rey had a career in Water Waste Operations, working for Harris County for twenty-three years, where he managed the water operations of several county parks.
Rey was a kind-hearted and compassionate person, who deeply loved his parents and would frequently check in on them. His laughter, optimism, and constant support will forever be treasured by those who were blessed enough to know him.
A passionate outdoorsman, Rey found immense joy in hunting and fishing. His love for nature began as a child, spending weekends at his Uncle Robert's ranch in Magnolia with family, especially his grandpa Guelo. This deep connection to the outdoors became a defining part of who he was. Whether it was quiet moments by the firepit or waiting patiently in a deer blind, his passion for nature will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing these moments with him.
Rey also had a love for grilling and cooking, particularly his tasty crawfish. He took great joy in preparing meals for family and friends, and his cookouts were always a time for gathering, laughter, and creating memories. With his infectious smile and sense of humor, Rey had a way of making any occasion feel special.
Rey is survived by his beloved daughter, Arianna Vega, who was the light of his life. To Rey, being Arianna's father was not only his greatest accomplishment but also his greatest success. As a testament to God's grace, Rey was blessed with a daughter who stayed by his side, caring for him lovingly until his final moments.
In addition to Arianna, Rey is survived by his parents, Norma and Reynaldo Vega; his brother Orlando Vega and wife Eunice, along with their children Alexander (AJ), Benjamin, and Emilia; as well as many other cherished extended family members.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the overwhelming love and support received during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039. A celebration of Rey's life will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home, with a burial to follow.
