He was baptized into the Catholic faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elgin, Texas as an infant. His God parents Armando and Maggy Trevino, and Esaura Trevino
He moved to Houston Texas with his family as a small toddler, and was raised in Houston, attending Scroggins elementary school, McReynolds Junior High school, and graduating from Austin High school in 1982, home of the Mustangs where he played football. As a young boy Ricardo enjoyed sports and played baseball in the Denver Harbor baseball leagues. He had fond memories of his parents and brothers coming to see him play and sometimes earning a few dollars for homeruns he hit! Rick loved his extended family of Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins and forged life-long relationships with cousins in Texas and Mexico. He loved spending time with family and friends in Mexico and in Elgin Texas throughout his childhood and youth. He often recalled fun times taking motorcycle and truck rides with his dear cousin Henry in Elgin, Texas, sweet times with cousin Anna who brought him treats and read him stories, and hanging out with beloved cousins Pedro in Monterrey, and shooting bb guns by the river with cousin Paco in Zuazua Mexico his father’s boyhood town. Growing up in Houston, in Denver Harbor New Edition neighborhood, Rick didn’t know a stranger he had a host of friends who are still his friends today. He carried so many treasured memories of fun times with his brothers, neighbors and friends.
As a young boy he discovered fishing as a hobby which became his passion as an adult. He loved the sport of fishing, from preparing his reels, making the trip to the coast and catching his limit, alone or with his beloved fishing friends. As an avid Houston Astros baseball fan he enjoyed going to the games rooting his team on, and in later years you would find him watching every game in the comfort of his home and sharing phone calls with cousin Mando and brother Arthur cheering every big play! Rick worked as hard as he played, he especially enjoyed the years he spent remodeling homes and businesses. His attention to detail, craftsmanship and leadership helped him to satisfy his customers. He made strong bonds and lasting friendships with his team.
Rick’s most cherished moment was the birth of his son +Justin Wayne Montemayor in 1987. Loving Justin made him a better man and father. He married Gloria Reyes Montemayor in 1995 and shared many happy years together, sharing the love for music, fishing, baseball, work picnic’s, holiday parties and family vacations and gatherings. He was honored to be a father figure to his niece Roxanne Montemayor, Popo to Makayla and Raul Ortiz, and uncle to all of his nephews and nieces.
Rick was blessed to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and his strong faith and belief in God strengthened him as he confronted illnesses. He had unshakable strength and battled back time after time to overcome obstacles and move forward. He inspired us when he not only bounced back and recovered but to do it with confidence, hard work, smiles and sharing jokes along the way. He fought the good fight and now is in the loving arms of his heavenly Father, God.
Rick is preceded in death by his Father Arturo Luis Montemayor, Mother Emma Ruiz Montemayor, brother Oscar Montemayor, and son Justin Wayne Montemayor. He leaves behind all of his family and friends to cherish his memory.
