

Richard was born on October 26th, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Charles and Effie Davenport. In 1965, Richard met the love of his life, Linda Bravenec. They married in 1965 and shared over 60 beautiful years together, in which they set a tremendous example of commitment, kindness, and joy to all.
Richard was the life of the party. As a young boy he was known as Chatterbox and to many of us today he was known fondly as Doc. Richard was an avid sports fan. He attended Reagan High School, where his talents earned him a baseball scholarship to Sam Houston State University. In 1962, he was drafted to play for the Atlanta Braves. Richard also held a love for golf. His talents led him to serve as the Assistant Golf Pro at Champions Golf Club. Richard also discovered a love for running through his running group at The Houstonian Club and went on to complete 12 marathons.
Richard was a gifted businessman whose work moved him all over the country to California, Georgia, and Virginia, eventually returning to Texas where he would retire. Richard was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Hulda Davenport; and his brother-in-law, David Caffey. He is survived by his wife, Linda Davenport; his daughter, Christie Rose; and two grandchildren who were his greatest joy, Grace Rose and Reagan Rose. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Davenport Jr.; niece, Cindy Davenport; nephew, Robert Davenport; sister-in-law, Joan Caffey; nieces, Jennifer Caffey and Lisa Caffey; nephew, David Caffey Jr.; along with many other family and friends that will miss him deeply.
A viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m. and the funeral will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association at donorservices.alz.org.
