Richard Burton Dicks of Sugar Land, Texas passed away on April 22, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on August 18, 1947, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he grew up and developed a lifelong love of sports, community, and storytelling.
He graduated from Stillwater High School, where he was an accomplished athlete—playing senior tackle for the football team and competing on the Linksters golf team, finishing third in state. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University, where he earned a degree in accounting and became a CPA. During his time there, he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and remained a devoted OSU Cowboys fan throughout his life.
Richard worked as an accountant and entrepreneur, building a successful career while also pursuing a wide range of passions. He combined his professional expertise with his love of the horse industry by authoring Equinomics, a guide to financial practices in the field. He also collaborated on clean air patents related to waste disposal, reflecting his innovative and forward-thinking spirit.
He was actively involved in many pursuits throughout his life, including the Arabian horse industry, where he owned and showed horses such as Night Moves and Lady in Red. Night Moves achieved top honors at major regional competitions, including the Oklahoma Arabian Horse Show, and earned recognition as a National Champion in the Half-Arabian division. His involvement in this world took him across the globe, where he formed lasting friendships with fellow enthusiasts. Later in life, he and his beloved wife Diane shared a passion for classic Triumph cars and were active members of the Texas Triumph Club.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane; his sister, Jere Lynn Chapman; and his brother, Russell Dicks.
He is survived by his son, Burton (Michelle); his daughter, Anne (Thomas Heyden); and his cherished grandchildren, Madison Dicks, and Coralee, Wade, Corinne, and Wyatt Heyden.
Richard was known for his sharp sense of humor, deep sentimentality, and unwavering devotion to his family. During his travels, he wrote heartfelt handwritten letters to Diane, a reflection of their enduring love. He was also a passionate film enthusiast who delighted in sharing classic movies with others and a gifted storyteller who preserved and passed down family history across generations.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved Diane.
The family would like to thank all of his caregivers for the care and compassion they showed him in his final days.
