Richard "Ricky" Lee Gardner

December 26, 1981June 4, 2021

Richard (Ricky) Lee Gardner from Katy, Texas, passed away at the age of 39 on Friday, June 4, 2021. Ricky was born on December 26,1981 in Houston, TX to Thomas (Rick) Gardner and Deborah Woodley (Stanford).

He was a hardworking employee of Seatrax for 10 years. Many of his colleagues would say he was “a hand” - a term used in the oil industry for someone who, without question, would lend “a hand” where ever and whenever needed.

Ricky was known for his infectious smile, and his kind and sociable spirit. He was an extremely genuine person and had a generous soul, always willing to help someone in need. A true one-of-a-kind. He loved and adored his son, Colton, dearly and was a wonderful dad. Ricky had a passion for fast cars and it continues to shine through Colton. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Ricky is survived by his son, Colton Gardner; his mother, Deb Woodley; his brother, Ryan Woodley and wife Evangeline Woodley; his sister, Ericka Orlando and husband Layne Orlando; Grandfather, Jimmy Lee Stanford; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ricky is preceded in death by his biological father, Rick Gardner, and second father, Doug Woodley; Grandparents, James and Rubye Kohli; Grandmother, Gloria Applewhite.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 10th, 2021 at 2 o’clock at the Chapel of The Texas Liberty Mausoleum at Reflection Lake, Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, off of Katy Freeway (i-10) and Eldridge.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a contribution to a fund for Colton. All proceeds will go to his future education.

You can make the contribution to Deborah Woodley, Ricky’s mother, via Venmo @Deb-Woodley or Paypal @DebWoodley.

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9

Ricky, we can only imagine the magnificence and beauty of being in the presence of The LORD - such perfect shalom and joy! A place of eternal perfection. This knowledge comforts us as our hearts ache with grief and sorrow. The memories of your radiant smile and gargantuan hugs will always be with us. You were joy, enthusiasm, energy, compassion, and kindness all wrapped up in a beautiful soul. So many lives have been touched by you, and will forever be marked by your larger-than-life personality. We will miss you, but rejoice through the tears in your triumphant homecoming. Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of The LORD, sweet nephew.

It was an honor to have met Ricky and shared good memories. He was a great son and dad. He often spoke of his mom with love and admiration. After his son was born, Colton became the center of his universe. He was kind to old and young alike. Ricky was a great person with a kind soul and a beautiful warm smile. He has left many good memories and a mark in those that knew him.

There really are no adequate words to describe Ricky, but I will try my best to find some. Ricky was a larger-than- life presence. When he walked in any room, everyone took notice. He could make one person in a crowded room, feel like they were the ONLY person in that crowded room. He would help anyone, if they just asked. How Ricky treated others is a huge testament to his life. He actually lived by the Golden Rule, Matthew (7:12 ) “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” I will remember his true smile and the sparkle in his eyes. I will remember his tighter than tight bear hugs that would take my feet off the ground. And I will never forget how he walked in the room, any room. That “Ricky” swagger. The earth has lost an amazing person, but I know Ricky is an Angel. He will be the Angel with the beautiful twinkle in his eye.
