Richard Allen Goodson

Richard Allen Goodson age 95, of Sugar Land, Texas (formally of Houston), passed away Sunday, September 29, 2026. Richard was born February 1, 1931 to Henry and Emma Goodson in Houston, Texas.

After attending John H Reagan High School, Richard joined the United States Air Force at Carswell Air Force base in Ft. Worth, Texas. It is here that he met the love of his life, Joan, who

was serving in the Women’s Air Corp. They enjoyed 73 years together before her passing in 2021.

Richard was an Ironworker for close to 40 years. His work can be seen on many buildings, past

and present, in and around downtown Houston.

Richard was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for over 70 years, serving in various

positions. One of his favorite duties was being an elder of the church and visiting shut-ins and other members and non-members of the church. He was known for his quick wit and warm

smile, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. Richard could make everyone feel valued and welcome with his kindness and generosity.

Richard is survived by his sons Mark (Lisa) Goodson and Allen (Alison) Goodson. Grandchildren Kaitlyn, Emily (Odrik), Lillith, Brianna, Justin and Jordan. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Joan and daughter, Teri.

A Graveside Service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, on October 1, 2026, at 10:45 am.
