Richard Wayne Place, 77, passed away on October 10, 2026. Born April 24, 1949, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Richard was the beloved son of the late Kenneth James Place and Doris Elaine Yocum Place. In 1958, he moved to Kimberton, Pennsylvania, where he continued to grow into the steady, honest man so many would come to know and respect. He graduated from Phoenixville Area High School in 1967.
Richard pursued higher education with determination, earning a BA degree in May 1978 from UT-Arlington and later receiving an MBA from Baylor University in 1985—accomplishments that reflected his disciplined mind and principled approach to life and work.
In June 1969, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1970 and served with distinction until his discharge in August 1975, attaining the rank of Captain. His years of military service were marked by responsibility and integrity—qualities that remained constant throughout his life.
Following his service, Richard devoted the next 40 years to the credit union business, serving in various capacities and building a career defined by reliability and honesty. He retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of steady leadership and respected professionalism.
On May 23, 1971, Richard married Kathryn Fariss in Waco, Texas. In 1978, they moved to Waco, where Richard was a member of First United Methodist and the Maranatha Sunday School Class, living out his faith with quiet consistency and a sincere devotion to community. In 2019, he moved to Houston, Texas. He joined John Wesley Methodist Church and the Searchers Sunday School Class.
Richard found deep enjoyment in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life. One of his greatest pleasures was playing golf with friends on Saturday mornings, and he generously gave his time volunteering at the Starburst Junior Golf events. He was also an avid Baylor fan and held season tickets for basketball until he moved to Houston —remaining steadfast in his loyalty and enthusiasm.
Richard is survived by his wife, Kathy; son Brian Place and wife Amanda; daughter Laura Place Hamilton; and grandsons Alexander, Jackson, Aiden, and Liam.
