Mr. Richard Anthony Salazar, age 83, passed away on March 24, 2026. Born on January 26, 1943, in Santa Rosa, California, he later made his home in Houston, Texas. Richard will be remembered as a honest family man, hard-working, —a true fixer-upper and problem solver—whose adventurous and resilient spirit carried him through a life marked by devotion to family, service, and the outdoors.
Richard was born in Santa Rosa, California, and moved around often during his childhood because his father served in the military. He graduated in 1962 from Jeff Davis High School and met his wife who went to Milby High School, a moment that would shape the rest of his life.
Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, as an active-duty airman. During his four years of service, he earned numerous awards and commendations, including promotion to Airman First Class, the Marksman Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award as a member of a unit known as “Prime Beef,” and the National Defense Service Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. He served as an ATC Airman First Class (E-4) within the Civil Engineering Group. From 1966 to 1968, Richard continued his service as a sergeant, completing his term before being honorably discharged. His steady determination, practical skill, and willingness to face challenges reflected the resilient character that defined not only his military service, but every aspect of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rubia Salazar, and his children, Ricardo A Salazar, Roberto A Salazar, and Rene A Salazar. He also leaves behind many cousins, sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, each of whom carries forward the impact of his guidance, strength, and care.
Richard found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life—camping, beaches, vacationing, Disneyland, fishing, driving, and time spent in the wilderness and outdoors. Whether exploring new places or returning to familiar ones, he approached life with an adventurous heart and a steady appreciation for the world around him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldo and Carmen Salazar, and his four younger siblings, Rudy Salazar, Tereasa Salazar, Gilbert Salazar, and Geraldo Salazar Jr.
Richard will be deeply missed and respectfully remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
