Rick Edward Speight, 67, of Cypress, Texas, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016. He was born in Pasadena, Texas on June 5, 1949 to parents Ellery and Vera Speight. He was drafted by the United States Army where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Later in life, he met Karen Elizabeth and they were married for 39 loving years. He worked for Armco Steel for thirteen years. He then became a member of the Local 68 Plumbers Union and retired with 25 years of service. After retiring, his love grew for golf, although he never played, he looked forward to watching the tournaments. Karen consistently heard him yell "Good Shot!" and these so happen to be some of his last words. Rick was an avid Astros fan as well. He enjoyed talking about the games with his beloved father whom he admired and adored. In the earlier years, Rick enjoyed taking his wife to Gilley’s for dancing where they met in 1976. On a Father-Daughter day at the rodeo in 1984, Rick was given a belt buckle which he wore almost every day since and Hayley will treasure it always.
He is survived by wife, Karen Speight, daughter, Hayley Speight, father, Ellery A. Speight; immediate family, brother, Ellery Joe Speight, sisters, Debbie Thornton and Diane Pulley. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and two "Grand Dogs" Stuie & Stella. Rick is preceded in death by his mother Vera Speight and a brother Robert Speight.
