Rita Louise Clanton (Riggs), 75, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at her son’s home surrounded by her family. A memorial with family and friends will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 14th, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
Rita was born on September 12, 1945, in Caldwell, Ohio, to E. Wayne and Louise Davidson Riggs. She graduated from Neodesha, Kansas in 1963 and attended Garden City Junior College from 1963 to 1965, earning her associate’s degree. On March 27, 1970, she married her high school sweetheart, Cecil Gerald (“Ike”) Clanton, in Boulder, Colorado. Rita moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1977, where she raised her two sons. She enjoyed watching sports, including baseball and basketball, and spending time with family, driving countless hours to attend her grandchildren’s baseball, football, basketball and soccer games and school functions. Rita is survived by her two sons, Gerald Wayne Clanton and his wife Tiffany of Brookshire, Texas, and Bradley Alan Clanton and his wife Denise of Pearland, Texas; six grandchildren; Monte Riggs, her brother; Michelle McVey, Patti Bell and Lori Riggs, her sisters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Wayne and Louise, and her husband, Cecil.
