Robbie Lee Edwards was born December 12, 1922 in Point Texas. She was the youngest of Frank and Anna Edwards' six daughters. Robbie graduated from Texas College in Tyler, Texas with a degree in Home Economics and began teaching in Goodrich, Texas where she met and married Frank Cannon. They moved to Houston and Robbie and Frank had two daughters, Madelyn Teresa (Terri) and Vanessa Faye. Robbie became a stay at home school teacher after her first child, practicing on her two daughters, and later volunteered in her daughters' schools extensively, becoming the PTA Chairwoman for many years. Much to her daughters chagrin, she could be found in the halls of their schools almost every day. As her daughters grew up, she returned to teaching elementary school full time until her retirement in 1983. Teaching children was the passion of her life. Robbie accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and after her marriage, united with the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Houston where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Adult Choir. The family later joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Gray where she taught the Women's Adult Bible Study class and sang in the Adult Choir. She later reunited with St. Stephens. She was a devoted Christian, often to be found reading her Bible. She loved gardening and flowers and she had an extraordinary green thumb. Robbie loved Blue Bell ice cream passionately and never really understood why it wasn't available in what turned out to be her last weeks. And even though she suffered with Alzheimer's in her later years, she loved to hear her sister Elease's voice when she called to talk to her. She was very close to all her sisters and their children, a devoted mother and an especially fond, proud and doting grandmother to Jeff, her only grandchild. Mrs. Cannon died peacefully June 12, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Mrs. Omae Wesley, Mrs. Frankie Lou Smith, and Mrs. Lela Bradley and Mrs. Lendora Murdock. She is survived by her sister, Elease Edwards, daughters Madelyn (Terri) Alexander and Vanessa Saunders, her grandson Jeff Alexander, her great grandchildren Jordan and Jazmine Alexander and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
