Robert George Dorsey, born in Houston, September 1, 1943, suddenly passed away on May, 1, 2013. A native and lifelong Houstonian Robert graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1961. Robert was the first in his family to graduate from college with a Bachelors Degree of Applied Science from the University of Houston and remained a staunch cougar fan. Robert proudly served in the Texas Air National Guard as a fireman for eight years in the sixties, where he met lifelong friends. His career was remarkably spent with the same company, Thermon, for 40 years.
Robert spent his lifetime laughing, living large, and loving Houston. He could turn any day into a party, did a mean Flip Wilson imitation, loved playing cards, the arrival of 5 o'clock, and had a very special way with a joke. Robert always found just the right nickname for those special to him, which made you feel special.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Veronica "Meme" Dorsey, sister Loretta Birdwell, and his mother-in-law, Margueritte "Mumsie" Franck. The loss of Robert's father at such a young age greatly influenced him, but he found a guiding father figure in Dr. Ben Speer. Robert lived each day to provide for his family in any and every way he could. Surviving Robert is his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Diana Henry Dorsey and his three children: daughter Heather and her husband John, daughter Nikki and her husband Cody, and son John Dorsey. He is survived by his three grandchildren: Sydney and Tori Paul and Jake Ghiselin. His siblings Jeanette Prendki, Eleanor and husband Knox Pitzer and Joseph Dorsey. Sister-in-law Martha "Hip" and James Maloch as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Robert will also be greatly missed by his companion pup Bear.
