Robert Estill passed away on Jan. 1, 2026 at the age of 88. Born in Houston, he raised his family there and resided there his whole life. As such, he had deep Texas roots.
Robert graduated from Rice University with a degree in accounting and economics in 1961. After that, he worked for American General Insurance for several years before deciding to attend graduate school. In 1966, he graduated from Sam Houston State University with a master’s degree in business administration. Subsequently, he had a long career as a revenue agent with the Internal Revenue Service.
A true “people person”, Robert found ways to give back to his alma maters and to the community. His heart for others led him to establish scholarships at both Rice and Sam Houston State, and he was a dedicated supporter of Rice athletics. He was also a long-time member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church. He served there in many capacities over the years, including as a greeter, an office volunteer, and an elementary Sunday School teacher.
Robert was preceded in death just over a year ago by his loving wife Susan. They were married for over 50 years. He is survived by his daughters Emily and Julie Estill, his sister Louise Perlitz, his cousin Elizabeth Martinez and her family, his niece Stacy Perlitz, and his nephew David Perlitz.
A memorial service to celebrate Robert’s long and faithful life will be held at a later time to allow family to gather.
