Robert graduated from Sam Houston Senior High School, Houston, Texas in 1969. He was a member of the Sam Houston ROTC from 1966 – 1969. He was a member of the Sam Houston Meister Singers 100 Voice Choir from 1966 – 1969 as well as a member of the Top Twenty Meister Singers.
He was married to Kathryn Buntin Hinson on October 9, 1970. They had two childen, Rebecca Anne and Thomas Allen.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1970-1973 and the U.S. Air Force from 1973-1977.
Robert worked in several industries including the Oil and Gas Industry and the Communications Industry. He worked for Houston Lighting & Power, Atlantic Richfield, Hughes Tool, and Welchem. He also spent a period of time working as an electrician for himself. He retired as a Communications Technician from AT&T in 2012.
He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Spring, Texas and was a Deacon for many years. He was a member of the church choir. He also taught 5th and 6th Grade students in Sunday School. Other than sharing his faith in Jesus Christ with others, his greatest passion was for helping teach people, especially young couples, how to get out of debt and preferably to never get into debt. He was Facilitator of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University at Memorial. He was also Co-Facilitator of GriefShare at Memorial. He co-facilitated this group with Kathy. The 2001 loss of his and Kathy’s 29 year-old daughter, Becky, led to their desire to help others walk down this difficult path.
Robert is survived by his wife, Kathy and their son, Tommy. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Wiley Buntin and wife, Diann; brother-in-law, Paul Buntin and wife, Becky; and sister-in-law Joyce Buntin Pickens and husband, Joe, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Mother, Mary Ruth Stuart Hinson Gibbs; Father, Floyd C Hinson; Stepfather, Curtis L Gibbs; Daughter, Rebecca Anne Hinson Lindstrom; Brother, Thomas Allen Hinson; Brother, John Stuart Hinson and Brother, Floyd Hinson, Jr.
A memorial service has been planned for 11:00 a.m., August 21, 2021 at Memorial Baptist Church, 22333 Kuykendahl Rd., Spring, TX 77379. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Star of Hope Mission, Houston, Texas.
