Robert T Overton III

Robert "Bob" T. Overton III (82) went to be with our Lord on January 14th, 2019. Robert was born on August 28th, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958. While at Vandy, he completed ROTC training and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army Artillery. Robert married Helen Naomi Smith. They had two children, Steve Michael Overton and Tyrecy Lynn Babirad. He completed the Army Surface to Air Missile School at Fort Bliss in El Paso and was eventually promoted to Captain in the Army Reserve. Robert was hired by Texaco as a Design Engineer at their refinery at Port Arthur, TX. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Texaco transferred him to the General Engineering Department in Houston as a Project Engineer/Manager. He worked on projects in several locations in the US, in Japan, Thailand, and Angola.

Robert was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church and belonged to the Living Word Church of the Nazarene at Bear Creek. He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He and Naomi loved traveling on vacations to all parts of the country with the family. Their favorite was the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Robert was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert T. and Clemmie Overton, and his brother Donald Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Naomi Overton; two children, Steve Overton and Tyrecy Babirad, and her husband Peter; two grandchildren, Russell Babirad and Melissa Babirad; two sisters, Sandra Jean Meade and Rita Fay Goostree.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20th, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home, located at 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77077. A Reception will be held on Monday, January 21st, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77077. The Funeral Service will be Monday, January 21st, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77077. Committal Service will follow the Funeral Service at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels.
