Robert W. Sides, age 95, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 in his Houston home, surrounded by family. He was born December 22,1922 in Pell City, Alabama. He was the last of his four siblings, all sisters, to pass away. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Juanita, from 1942 until her death in 2006. He lovingly cared for her at home until Alzheimer’s disease took her. He served in the Army and Air Force until WW2 ended, then was later called to duty during the Korean Crisis. He went to University of Alabama and received his BS in Chemistry, and later worked for US Steel Corp as a Metallurgist for some 30 years. He was a member of Memorial Drive Methodist Church for many years. He volunteered at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital for 15 years. He loved sports, especially football, baseball, and playing pool. His hobbies were gardening and woodworking. He set an example by his compassionate nature and kindness to others and to animals, and his love for nature. He is survived by his son Barry, his daughter Susan and her husband Scott, grandchildren Tammy, Maria and her husband Stephen, great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, December 19 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Committal service will be at 10:00am Thursday, December 20th.
