Robert Vargas Sr, 82, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 surrounded by his wife, children & grandsons who loved him very much. Robert was born June 7, 1939 in San Benito, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe Vargas & Maria Vargas.

Robert (Dad, Grandpa) was a United States Navy Veteran. He served honorably and proudly from December 7, 1956 to June 7, 1960. Within that time frame Robert served alongside his brother, Louis Vargas on board the destroyer USS Prichett. Our dad was so proud of being in the Navy that he showed anyone that entered his home (nurses, doctors, grandkids, visitors, etc.) pictures of he and his brother and the ship they served on. These pictures always hung behind his favorite chair.

As you can see in many of our photos, dad used to love Schitz Beer but in 2010 after a hospital stay he totally gave up drinking. He loved McDonald's hamburgers (Double cheeseburger, no pickles, no onions.) He loved mexican sweet bread, ice cream & Frosted Flakes. One of his favorite sayings was "might as well"! Mom & dad would sit in the car and people watch at Studewood Park after their daily store outings. We named their hangout (Lover's Lane). Dad was not a church going man but he believed in God and faithfully gave my mom church offering on Sundays. Dad had a mean streak at times but nothing our family couldn't handle. We loved that man so much! It's hard walking into their home and not seeing him but we know that he is in a better place with no more pain & suffering. Please keep our family in your prayers.

Hi Grandpa V. You have always been a man of not so many words since I’ve met you and that’s ok I still enjoyed being around you. Andrew loved you so much, he reminds me of you in the little things he does. With the stories I hear from grandma about you two living life and the reality of being married to him I get a little sense of what grandma went through. I’m in it for the long run through. You will be greatly missed. I will remind our babies who you are and we will honor your memory. Rest in paradise Grandpa. We love you.

So many good times at gpa Vargas house. All the fun get togethers with the kids. Thank you for welcoming me into the family. For always asking about the kids and I when Chris would show up alone lol. Thank you for the times you bought my Mason diapers. I’m so happy Mason and Evan got to meet you. (Evan for a short time but we will keep your memory alive for him). We will cherish the memories you have left us with. Mason will truly miss seeing you when we walk into your house. We love and miss you. See you later.

Grandpa,
I will forever remember all the times we came over for family gatherings and cherish the memories I have of you. Even if it was the burnt chicken coming off the BBQ pit. Hope in heaven they have timers so the angels around you can have endless chicken legs, rice, and beans.

Please continue to watch over our family from the Gates of Heaven. Keep us safe and united. Please tell my sissy, Jessica Ramon we love her and give her a hug from all of us.

We love you Grandpa and will truly miss you,
Risa, Derek, Abbie, Lilly, Bree, Jaxon and Steven

Robert Vargas and Frank Saucillo were childhood friends and remained friends all their life. His wife, Lupe, and I were also childhood friends. That’s how Robert met his wife Lupe - we double dated. We have remained friends all these years. Robert has joined his friend Frank in Heaven.

God bless the Vargas family,
Bertha Saucillo

Dear Anna, Frank, and Vargas Family,

May fond memories of your Father bring you comfort during this hard time in your life. Look back on all the good memories you were able to have and smile at the fact that you were able to share these before he passed away. I’m sure your father was a great man who will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
