Robert Omar West

Robert Omar West, 91, of Houston, Texas went to live in his heavenly home on March 9, 2024. He was born in Fletcher, Oklahoma on April 6, 1932.

Bob was a graduate of Pauls Valley High School and Baylor University where he served as drum major of both bands. He later went on to earn his masters at Sam Houston State University. He served in the Air Force both Active Duty and Reserve. While on active duty, he flew F-100 fighter jets and conducted the Okinawa symphony. He ultimately retired with the rank of Colonel. Bob devoted his life to improving education. He started out in Spring Branch as a band director, then spent most of his years in Klein Independent School District. During his years in Klein he opened and was the principal for both Klein Forest and Klein Oak High Schools. Later, he became the administrator in charge of all music programs. In addition to professional pursuits, Bob loved his family, traveling, birding, genealogy, history, June (his Model A car), airplanes and sneaky generosity.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sudie West; parents, Omar and Iris West; grandson, Kyle Wishon; and brother and sister-in-law Harold and Judy West. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Kristi and Bret Wishon, and son and his wife, Mikal and Kody West. His grandchildren Ryann and husband Travis Bayer, Meredith, Ellie and Garrett West and Kyle’s widow, Alba Wishon. Great grandchildren Grayson, Kaelynn, Rylynn and Gavin Bayer and Brittany, Paris, Elijah, Jacob and Isaiah Wishon. His siblings LaDawn Weeks, Sam and Paula West, Susie and Mike Penny. And many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our warmest thanks to Tim Onyechi as well as Ada, Joy and Delight of Grace Homestead for their unwavering care for Dad over these past few years. You have truly blessed our lives.

A visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home immediately followed by a interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

The family cordially invites guests to join them for a reception in the Magnolia Venue at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home following the burial.
