

Robert Davis Whitworth, 73, of Houston, Texas, passed away on September 10, 2026. Born March 15, 1953, Robert will be remembered with deep respect for a life shaped by steady dedication, quiet thoughtfulness, and a well-timed sense of humor that brought warmth to those around him.
Robert’s early years reflected a strong commitment to learning and discipline. He graduated from Arlington High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University, followed by a Master’s degree from Rice University—achievements that spoke to both his diligence and the careful, inquisitive mind he carried throughout life.
For more than 30 years, Robert worked at Mercury Fuels, building a career defined by reliability and expertise. His work took him across the world, traveling extensively and trading jet fuel—responsibilities he approached with the kind of persistence and professionalism that earned trust over time.
Robert was married to Virginia Gail Whitworth for 23 years. Together they shared a home that also included two beloved cats, Simba and Princess, whose presence brought daily comfort and companionship.
Outside of work, Robert found enjoyment in pursuits that matched his reflective nature. He was an avid reader with an appreciation for classical literature, biographies, and history. He also enjoyed golf and cycling, and in his youth participated in Eagle Scouts—an early expression of the responsibility and follow-through that would remain hallmarks of his life.
Robert’s intellectual curiosity remained a defining thread. He was a past member of MENSA, the high IQ society, and maintained involvement with the American Chemical Society—connections that reflected both his accomplishments and his enduring respect for knowledge and thoughtful exchange.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brookside Funeral Home - Champion, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068, US, on September 23, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
