October 31, 1940 – May 4, 2025
Roberto Almodóvar Colón of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, Judith Bellido Suárez, his son Julio Ángel Almodóvar, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Almodóvar.
Born in the southern city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Roberto lived a life marked by love, service, and family. A proud graduate of Ponce High School, he soon answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. During his time in the military, he was honored with the Army Occupation Medal (Berlin) and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. His final assignment was with the 1st Battle Group, 18th Infantry, Fifth U.S. Army, where he served with distinction and honor.
After his military service, Roberto worked with DuPont Automotive Finishes, retiring in 1985. Never one to rest on his accomplishments, he opened his own automotive finishes supply store in Hialeah, Florida—a family-run business supported by his wife and sons. After 15 successful years, he returned to Puerto Rico to enjoy his retirement surrounded by his siblings, extended family, and lifelong friends, including his cherished classmates from Los Igualitos of Ponce High.
Later, Roberto and Judith relocated to Texas to be closer to family. Despite health challenges in his later years, Roberto remained spirited and strong, deeply loved by those around him.
Roberto was the proud father of three sons: Roberto Almodóvar, Javier Almodóvar, and Julio Ángel Almodóvar. He was a beloved grandfather to Bobby, Chelsea, Linsey, Jessier, Matthew, Victoria Ashlie, Yovani, Antonio, and Nicholas.
He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, his talent for poetry, his occasional guitar playing, and his love of dancing—always the first to hit the dance floor with his beloved wife. He also cherished time spent playing dominoes with family and friends.
Roberto’s presence brought joy and laughter, and while his passing leaves a deep void, his loved ones take comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service is scheduled for May 30,2025 at 10:45 a.m. at Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Houston, TX 77038
