Our dear father, Roberto, passed away on April 26, 2026, in his home of 36 years in Houston, TX surrounded by his beloved family and friends. Roberto was born on June 7, 1948 in Rio Rico, Tamaulipas, to Simon and Cristina (Perez) Silva. Orphaned at the age of four, he was relocated to other states in Mexico, where he navigated his unpredictable life with endurance, hard work, and passion for adapting to survive. He returned to the United States for a better life and opportunities.
Despite not having any formal education, our father was the master mathematician, calculating measurements with superb accuracy. He was a jack of all trades, learning plumbing, automotive mechanics, electrical, carpentry, and ultimately specializing in tile work. He even learned to make ice-cream! Roberto successfully operated Roberto Silva Tile Co. for over 30 years, with understudies, J Refugio “Cuco” and Agustin “Tata”, crafting and creating beautiful work, some of which displayed in numerous issues of Better Homes & Gardens. Many of his clients, included some of Houston’s public figures and dignitaries.
While navigating life in Guanajuato, Mexico, he met the love of his life, Maria. Dad stole Mom’s heart and married on June 8, 1967. Their unity created a legacy of children and several generations of grandchildren. He affectionately referred to his in-laws, Con and Fide, as his own parents, “mi Con y mi Yel”.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and siblings and survived by his dedicated wife, Maria; children JoAnne (Eduardo) Castaneda, Margarita (J Refugio “Cuco”) Romo, Roberto Jr. (Maria), Maria Cristina (+Daniel) Sepulveda, Elisa (Corey) Bosier, Yolanda Muñoz, Jesse (Veronica), Rudy (Katya), Johnny, and Vanessa (Eduardo) Coronado, bonus child Eric (Daena) Ortiz; grandchildren, Connie, Miguel “Juice”, Kimberly, Lupita, Fatima, Yesenia, Robert III, Daniel Jr., Jacob, Joseph, Matthew, Coressa, Jewel Marie, Carlie, Gigi, Dominic “Tatita”, Esperanza Xinacthli, Serenidad Xochitl, Kelsey, Cece and Sammy, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Roberto had a passion for swimming, music, family gatherings, seeing his family united and most of all, celebrating his children and grandchildren’s achievements. He loved to share stories of visits with friends, years spent near the Texas border and working to build the railroad in Mexico.
His legacy will live on through his family, whose lives he enriched with wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. We will forever remember his humorous spirit, and the countless memories we shared together. Though he is no longer with us, his influence remains, guiding us and providing comfort in times of sorrow. We are comforted knowing our Dad knew his place in God’s family and that he accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
