Robin Hawkins (lovingly known as Maude by family and friends) was born to Tommy and Madgline (Goosie) Hawkins of Houston, Texas, in the spring of 1957. Because of complications during birth, she was not able to develop normally and had speech and mental delays. Despite this circumstance, she developed into a fully loved and fully loving bright light of joy for all who knew her.
During her 65 years of life, Maude became a testimony of strength and triumph. At a young age, she learned how to ride a bike and roller skate, even before her siblings. She loved roller coasters, drawing and playing dominos and cards, and had her family – especially her daddy, brother, and later, brother-in-law—wrapped around her little finger. She knew they would do whatever she wanted. Caring for and loving Maude became their delight. Maude skillfully used language to command attention with words like right now and I mean it. She loved music, often playing songs on her record player when she was a young girl. She enjoyed singing old gospel hymns like “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” “Bringing in the Sheaves,” “Joy to the World,” and “Jesus Loves Me.” She also loved the wedding march, wearing hats while pretending to be the bride and singing “here comes the bride.”
Maude loved riding in the car and traveling, and her family took her on many trips across the U.S. She even took one of her own, unsupervised (but was quickly and safely returned). She loved fried chicken (skikkie), french fries, Mexican food and specifically requested only Maxwell House coffee. She brought such joy and laughter to everyone around her, especially her family.
Maude is preceded in death by her mother and father Madgline and Tommy Hawkins and her brother Thomas Craig Hawkins. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Tina and Tommy Bedford, sister-in-law Robin Hawkins, nieces and nephews Melissa Bedford, Kaitlyn Hawkins, Justin Bedford and spouse Rachael, Austin Hawkins, as well as many cousins.
Serving as pallbearers for the service are Justin Bedford, James Abell, Jonathan Dziedzic, Nick Dziedzic, Taylor Simon and Zachary Simon.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home. A service celebrating Maude's life is planned for Thursday, October 13 at 2:00 pm at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston, Texas, with Pastors James and Claire Buntrock of Glorious Way Church officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to their lifelong friends James and Sherry Abell, Frank and Lisa Dziedzic, and their daughter Autumn Dziedzic , who have given sacrificially of their time and love in helping to care for Maude, especially during her last few years. They also thank everyone that has sent their condolences – through flowers, cards, texts, messages, meals, visits and prayers. They have been a comfort during this time and a blessing to the family to know the impact Maude had on so many.
