Rodney J. Davis, Jr. (“Lil’ Rodney”) was born in Houston, Texas on December 21, 1981 to Andrea and Rodney Davis, Sr. After graduating from high school, Rodney attended Prairie View A&M University on a Naval ROTC Scholarship. While attending Prairie View, Rodney joined the Illustrious Lambda Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. He graduated from Prairie View with a degree in Computer Engineering Technology and began his career in the field of Information Technology (I.T.).
In 2005, Rodney married the love of his life, Kimberly Lewis, at Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Together, they have two beautiful daughters, Shaunna and Shannon. Rodney had a diverse range of interests and hobbies including, but not limited to, watching the Dallas Cowboys play, reading, working out, playing video games, cooking, and hosting and attending social events (work or otherwise). More than anything, Rodney loved to travel with his family. He enjoyed the regularly scheduled cruises with his wife Kim, their daughters, and Kim’s parents, Tracy and Nolbert Lewis. He also enjoyed visiting Las Vegas as frequently as possible.
During his tenure at Texas Children’s Hospital, Rodney received an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Texas Tech University. Using his years of work experience, the knowledge he attained from Prairie View A&M and Texas Tech, and his many and varied personal and professional relationships, not to mention his tenacious work ethic, Rodney’s career took off. At the time of his passing, Rodney was a Healthcare Client Executive at VMware.
Last year, Rodney was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and began the fight for his life. Despite this monumental obstacle, Rodney always kept a positive attitude with family and friends, and a professional attitude with colleagues. He continued traveling and attending social events with friends and colleagues, even while undergoing various medical treatments.
While putting forth a valiant effort and relying on some of the brightest minds in the medical field, Rodney lost his battle on August 13, 2022.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Kim, their daughters: Shaunna and Shannon, his parents, Andrea and Rodney Davis, Sr., his sister, Myra, his grandmother, Mary Lee Daniels, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, professional colleagues, and countless brothers (fraternal, Masonic, and otherwise). Anyone who truly knew Rodney, knew that while he might appear intimidating at times, he was honest, compassionate, and loyal until the end.
