Roger Lee Anderson Sr. passed away on June 23, 2023 at the age of 58. He was born in Houston, TX at North Houston Hospital on April 29,1965 to Arthur Lee Anderson and Sandra Kay (Ballard) Anderson. Roger graduated from MacArthur High School and worked in law enforcement at the Houston Police Department for 29 years retiring as a Lieutenant.
As an HPD officer, Lieutenant, Roger Sr. was known for his loyalty to the men and women who wore the uniform. He was proud to serve and was compassionate and helpful to those he recognized as less fortunate.
As proud as Roger was to wear the uniform and serve his community, nothing surpassed the pride he held for his son, Roger L. Anderson, Jr. Upon Roger Jr. birth, another name had originally been chosen. The moment Roger laid eyes on his son he was so filled with love and pride, that he was adamant he wanted his son to carry his name of Roger L. Anderson, Jr. In Roger Sr. eyes and heart, he loved no one more than his son.
An athlete, singer, piano player, and drama student, Roger actively played sports, sang in the choir and acted in plays throughout his childhood. He was known as a singer with a beautiful voice and enjoyed playing the piano.
Growing up Roger Sr. had a passion for fishing and enjoyed hunting. A fond memory shared between Roger and his father, Arthur, involves a fishing trip. While the two were fishing for redfish, Roger was having better luck so his dad made him switch rods with him. That did not slow Roger down as he continued to keep reeling them in. His dad wanted his rod back and Roger laughed as he said, “It’s all in the feel”. They caught a limit of redfish that day and Roger caught four to his Dad’s one.
Roger’s mom, Sandra, will never forget when he was 6 years old, he participated in a play put on by the Church of the Nazarene. After he finished his part, he kept talking so much that they had to take the mic away from him. Someone said, “That boy is going to be a preacher”.
Roger was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Wanda Ballard, and paternal grandparents, Silas Paul Anderson and Leona Jane Anderson.
Roger is survived by his son, Roger Lee Anderson Jr., ex wife, Susan Anderson, father and mother, Arthur Lee Anderson and Sandra Kay Anderson, one brother, Donnie Anderson and his wife Cindy, along with one niece, two nephews, cousins, and many family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
